Books For Baby
Did you know that picture books can help your baby learn that everything has a name? Babies are never too young for books. Picture books are a great start to language development. Your child can learn colors, shapes and names for objects, people and animals by being exposed to picture books and baby books at a young age.
When baby is still young you should choose large books and books with cloth or vinyl pages that cannot be torn or chewed on. This will allow your baby to turn the pages for herself and fully enjoy the book. You should also look for simple but colorful images in the books that your baby will enjoy.
To make the books extra special, you should introduce them to your baby by spending time together. Read the book together or if there are no words, spend time discussing the pictures that are inside. Let your baby get “hands on” and touch and feel the book for herself.
She may even want to lick it or put it in her mouth. This is how many babies learn what something is. You may pick a special time each day that you read together and enjoy these books but also make them accessible to your baby at any time she wants them. This will foster a love of books, reading and pictures.
You are responsible for making books special to your baby and one way you can do this is by introducing age-appropriate books at the right time and then helping your baby learn to enjoy and appreciate them.
