Should You Have Your Baby Circumcised?
Sometimes, it really is easier to have baby girls, if only because you don’t have to be faced with the question “Are you going to have your baby circumcised?” right after giving birth to a baby boy.
As soon as I knew I’m carrying a boy it became a dilemma, should I or should I not? And rightly so, my pediatrician confirmed, it really is a matter of preference, a cultural thing if you will.
These days, at birth, you will be asked if you would like to have your baby circumcised at the hospital or not, and doctors say it’s more painful for parents than for the baby but it heals in about two weeks with no trauma for the child. As the baby grows older, the skin becomes tougher and is harder and more painful to cut.
Culturally, Asians are mostly circumcised and boys who aren’t are often subjected to cruel teasing by his peers which can make it a difficult situation for him. There is also the question of hygiene, is it cleaner to be circumcised? Not really, it depends on a person’s hygienic practices.
If you choose to not have your baby boy circumcised then it is your responsibility to teach him how to take care of his peepee rocket so he’s not prone to infection or other hygienic boo boo.
