TV or No TV?

At some point in time, no matter how much resolve we have not to let the baby watch TV until they’re a certain age, we slip and let in some TV time.

In households around the world, television is fast becoming an alternative “baby sitter” for harried moms. So is television really harmful to babies? And how much TV is bad TV?

My son, who’s going on nine months, watches Super Why on public television. That and Word World. I guess it has more to do with the big round eyes and colorful scenes than anything else because when commercial comes on, he plays something else.

I believe in moderation, and some TV is good TV like Word World on Public Television. It teaches kids how to spell. Children’s shows like Barney, Big Big World or Mama Mirabelle are great shows that teach children how to love their environment and get along well with other children.

Sadly, there are children’s shows out there that include violence and “how NOT to do things”. These shows are iff-y as far as I’m concerned specially as they are packeaged to be fun and entertaining. Somehow, grown up values and reasonings on how to translate the message can sometimes be lost when you introduce entertaining scenes of gore, violence and b***ness.

What do you think?
